Scientific Societies in Victorian Scotland
19 November 2025
Dr Diarmid Finnegan, School of Natural and Built Environment, Queen’s University Belfast.
This talk places the foundation of The Inverness Scientific Society and Field Club in November 1875 in its national context, as similar societies were established throughout the country, often following a very similar path to what happened in Inverness. As we celebrate our Sesquicentenary (150th Anniversary) we look forward to understanding how these early experiments in citizen science contributed to Victorian understanding of the natural world.
(Diarmid will join us from Belfast by a Zoom video link in the Leonardo Hotel.)
